Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F
Make the rub. Combine the 3 tablespoons brown sugar, salt, smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, and chili powder.
Rub the mixture over the entire meat on all sides and set aside.
In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot add the oil and heat over medium heat.
Once the oil is hot place the pork into the Dutch oven brown/sear the meat on all sides. Add more oil if needed.
Remove the meat from the heat and add the chicken broth (do not pour over top of the meat).
Place into the preheated oven and roast for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or when the meat is no longer pink inside.
Remove the meat from the Dutch oven and discard the chicken broth.
With 2 forks shred the meat. Place the shredded meat back into the pot.
Pour the bbq sauce over the meat and mix well.
Reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees and place the meat back into the oven. Bake for 30 minutes.
Remove from the oven and serve.
