Preheat oven to 400 degrees
In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, ginger, and orange zest. Add the butter to the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles small pea size crumbs.
In another bowl combine the egg and the milk, mix together. Add to the flour mixture and by hand mix until it comes together to form a bow..
Place on a flour surface and knead a few times. Form an 8-inch circle. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife cut into 8 wedges.
Place on a prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Place in a preheat oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until the scones are turning lightly brown.
Remove from oven and cool completely on cooling rack.
While the scones are cooling mix the icing together.
Place the powder sugar, butter, poppy seeds in a small bowl. Gradually add the orange juice until the icing is the right consistency for drizzling. Drizzle over scones and enjoy.
