Fried Cabbage

Fried Cabbage is honestly one of my favorite side dishes made with cabbage,  bacon, onion, and flavored with a little bit of sugar and vinegar. It is simple to make and really delicious.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups chopped cabbage
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 4 teaspoons red wine vinegar or to taste
  • 3 teaspoons sugar or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste

Instructions

  • Cut the cabbage into quarters and remove the core. Rinse the cabbage with cold water and dry. Chop the cabbage into about 1-inch pieces or bite-size pieces.
  • Chop the bacon into bite-size pieces. Place the bacon in a large skillet and cook until lightly crisp over medium heat.
  • Remover the bacon once it is cooked and place the bacon on paper towels to drain.
  • Add the chopped onions to the bacon grease and cook until tender about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the chopped cabbage and cook for 10 to 15 minutes or until the cabbage is wilted but still somewhat crisp. Or cook until your desired cabbage doneness.
  • Add the red wine vinegar, sugar, and salt and toss in. Taste and add more of the vinegar, sugar, or salt to your taste.
  • Add back the bacon and toss in. Cook until the bacon is heated. Serve.

Notes

  1. Cut the cabbage into quarters and remove the core before chopping it up.
  2. Wash the cabbage with cold water and dry.
  3. Store the fried cabbage in an airtight container for 3 to 5 days.
  4.  reheat the fried cabbage in the skillet over low heat until heated through.
