Filling-
In a medium saucepan combined all of the ingredients.
Bring to a boil over medium heat. Continue to cook until the mixture reduces by half or a little more and become very thick (jelly-like).
Remove from heat and cool completely.
Cookie Dough-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease baking sheets.
In a large mixing bowl beat the butter and sugar together with an electric mixer.
Add the eggs and mix in.
Mix in the vanilla and the sour cream.
To this mixture add the boiling water and mix until combined.
Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add this to the dough and mix until well combined.
The dough will be very soft, but that is how it should be.
Drop the dough by teaspoons onto the prepared baking sheet. With the back of the teaspoon make a small well in the dough.
Put a small amount of the cranberry filling in the well. (about 1/2 teaspoon)
Take a dab of the cookie dough and set on top of the filling.
Place the cookies in the preheated oven and bake 12 to 14 minutes or until the bottoms are slightly browned.
Remove from the oven and cool completely.
These cookies freeze nicely.
