Apple Cinnamon Scones

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups finely chopped apples
  • Frosting -
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease baking sheets.
  • In a large bowl add the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon, mix until well blended. Add the 3/4 cup butter and cut in with a pastry cutter until the butter is worked in.
  • In another bowl add the milk, egg, vanilla, and chopped apple, blend together. Pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients and by hand mix together.
  • Divide into two. On a lightly floured surface knead the dough a couple of times.
  • Pat out the dough into a six-inch circle. Cut into six wedges and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Place in the preheated oven and bake 15 to 17 minutes or until the scones are lightly browned.
  • Remove from oven and cool completely on cooking rack.
  • Frosting-
  • In a small saucepan combine the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Heat over medium heat stirring continuously until it comes to a boil, remove from heat. Gradually add the powdered sugar until the right consistency. Beat with until smooth and cream. Drizzle the frosting over the cooled scones.
