Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 -3 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 large egg

Glaze

  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted

Instructions

  • In a large bowl add 1 cup of flour, yeast, and salt.
  • Add the milk, honey, and butter to a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup and heat to about 110 to 120 degrees F in the microwave.
  • Add the milk, butter, and honey to the dry ingredients and mix in with a wooden spoon. Add the egg to the mixture and stir until mixed in.
  • Gradually add the rest of the flour by hand. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Grease the bottom of the bowl with shortening and turn over so both sides are coated.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or when the dough is double in size.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease 2 baking sheets.
  • Once the dough is doubled in size divide the dough into 15 pieces. Make the dough into balls and place them on a greased baking sheet about 1 to 2 inches apart. Flatten the ball into a disk with the tips of your fingers.
  • Cover the rolls and let rest for 1/2 hour. Once the rolls are done rising place in the preheated oven and bake 10 to 13 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While the rolls are baking place 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of honey in a microwave dish and heat until the butter is melted. Stir so that the butter and honey are blended.
  • As soon as the rolls are out of the oven brush with the honey butter mixture and serve.

Notes

  1. Make sure that your yeast is not old.
  2. The milk should not be too hot. It will kill the yeast. The temperature should be between 110 to 120 F.
  3. If you don't have a thermometer, the milk should be quite warm to the touch.
  4. Don't add too much flour to the dough. Adding too much flour will make for dry crumbly rolls.
  5. The dough should be slightly sticky to the touch.
