Fruit Smoothies… the healthier way to have your dessert!

Twenty eight years today I gave birth to our first born, our daughter Lisa. Where has the time gone? Now she is married and a mother to our first grandchild.

She usually stops by on Friday night for frozen pizza night at our house. But it being her birthday I didn’t have the heart to serve frozen pizza. So I made a quick homemade pizza and instead of the traditional birthday cake I made these fruity smoothies. It’s bit healthier than the birthday cake.

Also, the fact is that we are celebrating her birthday with the whole family on Sunday, when we will be having more of a birthday dessert.

I love smoothies made with fruit, they are so easy to make and they taste so yummy. I cut up my fruit last night, put it in a resealable bag, and threw in the freezer overnight. When I got home from work I threw it in the blender and whipped up this delicious smoothie in no time at all. I love using the frozen fruit, that way I don’t have to use ice and I think that the smoothie comes a bit more creamy and thick.

It was a big hit not only with the birthday girl, but with everyone.

Fruity Smoothie
Ingredients:
2 pears (I used Bosc pears)
2 cups strawberries
1 ripe banana
2 oranges
1 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon honey or to taste
Directions:
1. Cut the pears, strawberries, and banana into about 1 inch size cubes, place them in a resealable bag, and place them in the freezer until completely frozen (I would say at least 12 hours).
2. In a blended place your peeled oranges that have been broken into segments. Blend until completely pureed, add vanilla yogurt and blend until smooth.
3. Add about 1/3 of the frozen fruit and using the ice crusher mode of the blender process the fruit. When blended add another 1/3 of the fruit with 1/2 cup milk and continue this ratio until the fruit is blended.
4. Add honey 1 tablespoon or to your taste. Serve and enjoy!
