We grow green beans in our garden every year and I find myself not knowing what to do with them all. It seems that a lot of them go to waste. This year we have been giving some away to friends and family, but still there is a ton of them left. So, I decided to do a fun recipe, fried green beans
I am sure you are probably familiar with this green bean side dish or appetizer in some cases. I know that I have seen fried green beans on menus in several restaurants and have seen the recipe on numerous blogs.
I was not sure what to expect from this recipe. Fried green beans is not something I would normally have made before my blogging days. But like I mentioned I wanted something fun and these definitely are fun. These green beans turned out to be amazing.
My son Adam who would have eaten the green beans before just because he knew they were healthy for him but he really would not have enjoyed them. With these green beans I saw him reaching for seconds and thirds. I guess this says it all…
Fried Green Beans (Source: adapted from ziplist.com)
Ingredients:
2 dozen green beans
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon oregano
Enough oil to fry beans
Instructions:
Wash and dry green bean. Snip the ends off of each green bean.
Take the bread crumbs and mix with the garlic powder and oregano until well mixed
Set-up a breading stations with the flour, bread crumb mixture, and milk in separate containers.
Start by rolling the beans in flour, dip it in the milk, and roll it in the bread crumbs. Place on a plate. Once all the green beans are coated once, repeat so each bean is double breaded.
Add about a 1/2-inch of oil to a skillet and heat over medium high heat. Once the oil is hot place green beans in oil. Fry for about 1 1/2 minutes to 2 minutes and flip over and fry the other side for the same amount of time or until the batter is golden brown. Remove beans from the oil using a tongs and place on sheets of paper towels. Serve while beans are hot.
